There are so many people living life not in congruence with their own personal values.
This is something all of us must define, and come to terms with. I recently listened to one of my chiropractic brothers( Dr. Austin Cohen..look him up, he’s awesome) give a webinar on the importance of values. It hit home to me because it is something that I too define in my life, and is something I do to live the life of my dreams.
So how do you do this? Make a list of your top five values. What in your life do you value so much that you put above anything else. Make your top 5. I will share my mine.
First and foremost, God and inner peace is above all. Without those, my life would feel empty. ..listed below are my top 5 life values.
1. Health- Hands down I put my health above anything else. Without my health I am not the best wife, mother, doctor, sister, daughter, or friend. When I put my health first everything else is better. I feel better, I look better, I am the best me. I constantly push myself to be the best me. I also strive to give the best health to my family, friends, and patient’s.
2. Family/friends- Anyone that knows me knows that family and my chosen family is right up there with health for me. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for my husband and kids. They are my world, they are my everything. When I am with them I am most happy, and feel that my life is full and complete:)
I also have chosen family. These are friends that are like family who have been there through everything with me, and life without them would be empty. Being a busy mom and owning a practice, I sometimes get wrapped up in life, and really have to stop and make time for my friends. When I am out of balance with this, I am not as happy. I find myself constantly working at this part of my 2nd value. I am currently working on this part of my life right now.
3. Career- This is a value that is very dear and near to my heart. Graduating from Chiropractic school was one of the biggest accomplishments in my life, aside from getting married/having kids and opening our chiropractic office. I also started my health and wellness website and that has always been a major passion of mine. When we opened our first chiropractic office we decided after having our baby, that it was best for me to be at home according to what we value. This was a very hard (still is hard) transition for me because I love what I do so much. Because I am fortunate to stay at home for the time being, I decided that putting them before my career is what would make my heart most happy. So that is what I did. Do I struggle with that, yes… but this is only temporary, and family is my 2nd value so this is why I did that. I am looking forward to getting back into the office, and can’t wait to practice with my prince charming. 🙂
4. Respect/Love/Loyalty/Honesty/Humility/Laughter/Drive- I could not put one of these above the other, so I categorized them all together. Am I breaking the rules? Probably lol… But they are all very important when making me happy. I love to surround myself with people that carry these characteristics. It makes me want to be a better person, and to alway strive to use these characteristics in myself. There is nothing better than surrounding yourself with driven, wholesome, warm hearted people.
5. Fun- What is life without having fun? This is a value that I need to work on! I love to do fun things with my friends, travel, laugh until i almost pee my pants, and enjoy life.
Out of all my values the things I am working on presently are my career, making time for friends, and having fun! For me, if these top 5 values are not present in my life or out of balance, I am not fully happy or at peace.
Work on your top values and see how much better you feel when your life aligns with them! xo
Love y’all!
