I came across this recipe on my facebook newsfeed and thought I would give it a try.(This recipe can be found on primallyinspired.com) We don’t eat pizza a lot because my gut can’t handle the processed grains and gluten, not to mention we stay away from a lot of grains because eating a diet high in grains is simply not good for your health. I have made other paleo pizza crust in the past, but this one tops all of them! It tastes like regular yummy pizza! I swear!!
~1 cup of Arrowroot Flour(Starch)
~1/2 teaspoon of salt
~optional: 3 tbsp of Romano cheese/parm Cheese
~1/3 cup of coconut oil expeller pressed
~1/3 cup of water
~1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
~1 clove of finely chopped garlic
~1 egg
~1/3 cup of Coconut Flour
~1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees
2. In a medium bowl, add in arrowroot flour, sea salt, (cheese if using) Set aside
3. In a small pot over medium heat, add your oil, water, apple cider vinegar and minced garlic.
4. As it heats up and comes to boil, remove it from the heat and add to your arrowroot mixture. Stir until combined and let cool.
5.Once it’s not hot, add in your egg.
6. Add in your coconut flour(and Italian seasoning if using) and stir until the coconut flour is absorbed and becomes dough.
7. Form the dough into a ball and roll out onto parchment paper or lightly greased pizza stone or baking pan. ( this is enough for 12-14 circle dough)
8. Bake 14-15 minutes until the crust turns light golden brown.
9. Remove from oven, add toppings and bake an additional 3-5 more minutes.
For Toppings in Picture:
Once the pizza crust is done baking the first time, add pizza sauce on first layer. Next I simply sautéed swiss chard, onion, red pepper and spinach in grass fed butter over stove. Once veggies are good and carmelized, I add that on top of the pizza sauce. To hide all the yummy veggies from the kiddos I put Grass fed, raw cheddar cheese on top. I then topped it off with pepperoni ( Organic valley brand). It was delicious and my hubby and kids gave it a five stars! ENJOY!!!
